Homework

Now that spring break is over, here comes the dreaded homework.  I can't wait until summer!

Let me give you a glimpse of our homework life.  I walk in the door after work.  I set my purse down.  We sit down at the kitchen table to begin homework.  When Ster first started at his new school, he loved it and was so excited to do his homework.  Two pages of math (usually), a Time For Kids assignment, sometimes Spelling.  It took us usually 45 minutes to do both math pages.  One, Ster can't focus long enough to do two problems in a row.  Two, he really struggles with understanding fractions.  If we are lucky, homework goes smoothly and we can spend 30 minutes reading.

The week before Spring Break, he came home with 6 math pages one night.  Now, these aren't 25 problems per page - but it may as well be!  The word problems are the worst.  Because even I (who did well in math) can't figure out how to explain things very well.  That wasn't a fun night - but atleast there wasn't any yelling.

Tonight I walk in the door and Ster tells me he has lots of math to do.  10 pages.  2 of them were from last week that he forgot to bring home.  But 10 pages!?!  Serious?

It didn't help opening the mail and seeing that the lady that Tim hit in the accident wants our insurance coverage information.  The letter started off by saying that our coverage is up to this amount and anything over that we will be responsible for.  Then it says she wants our coverage amounts.  So what, is she going to get an attorney to sue?  Surely she won't ask for over $100,000 - but who knows these days!

So I wasn't in a good mood.  And the first words out of Ster's mouth were that he didn't understand his math.

Then the torture began.  The first 2 pages took an hour and a half - with lots of raised voices because he didn't understand it and I practically had to hold his hand.  That got old fast.  Tempers flaired.

It is now 8 p.m. (we had dinner and a break from the raised voices) and we have only those 2 pages done.  Um, we definitely won't get reading done tonight.  We'll be lucky to get 3 pages done!
