When we moved to Lehi, we were quite surprised the first time we went to church and found a full chapel/gym. No joke. Our ward fill the entire chapel and gym - clear to the back. We usually get there 15 minutes early (not by choice on my part - Tim and Ster like to get there early to get "our spot" in the chapel). We have been successful getting one of two benches - it is the perfect size for the three of us. We fit nicely without having too much extra space so I don't feel guilty taking up valuable space. (I don't like to sit in the middle of a row where we have to climb over people to get out - so we always sit on the side).
Anywho-
The last two weeks we have arrived at least 15 minutes early - and we had to sit in the hard chairs! 15 minutes early, for cryin' out loud! Tim's back doesn't take well to those chairs - and I have found that my back doesn't like it either.
We won't have to worry about that anymore. They just split our ward last Sunday. We knew it was coming - they informed us two weeks ago that a split would be taking place. Torture for me - I have no patience with waiting for information! We are no longer with the Lehi 10th Ward - we are now the Westfield Ward. We can now say that we have been in the ward since it was created =) There are several old people in our ward who have been able to say that - our ward was created in the early 1970s.
So we went from having 239 families in the ward directory (about 10 of them were young adults living with their parents and 3 little old ladies from the Beehive home - yes, I am wierd because I counted) to having 112 on the list (about 4 of them are adults living with family and the same 3 little old ladies). And we still have several basement rentals. They even realigned the stake boundary to include about a dozen homes from another stake so we could have enough people.
I can't tell you if I like it or not. On the one hand, I doubt we will be fighting for bench seats now. On the other hand, the speakers will have to take up more time. In our old ward, the speakers had to usually take up 30-35 minutes. In this ward, after the sacrament was passed we have only had maybe 25 minutes. Sucks to be the speakers! And on one foot, I think the clicky ladies are in the other ward now =) And on the other foot, maybe we'll be able to meet a few more people since I won't feel overwelmed with the number of people there.
