We are getting closer!

I couldn't wait until tonight to post this.  I haven't been able to concentrate at work because I've been a nervous wreck.

We had our house inspection and there wasn't anything major on the list so we are one step closer to signing.  We should be closing on January 11 and will hopefully be able to rent our house back until we move into our new home.  Which is tentatively scheduled to be finished January 28.

If they aren't done on the 28th or sooner - I will be CRANKY!

What a relief!

We have had an offer!  I can't tell you how relieved we are.  So far, it is verbally accepted and we should get the final paperwork after Christmas.  We've done the negotiation and their realtor said they have agreed and will sign the paperwork. I can't tell you how relieved I am!  I will be praying really hard this weekend that they don't back out!

And, progress is finally being made on our home!  The exterior is half done - stucco up and they were putting up the rock today.  I was a bit worried because when Tim showed me the pictures a couple of days ago, it seemed awfully dark.  I guess they paint it?  Who knows.  All I know is that I am so excited to see this progress!  The tile is almost complete in the bathrooms.  The driveway and walkway have been poured.  Sooo exciting!

Now, I am not one who likes darker colors.  I like things to be lighter - which is why I fell in love with our white cabinets in our current house.  Tim put a halt to me choosing white cabinets in this house.  But I fell in love with the dark cabinets we (me) picked out.  I can't wait to see them in!!!  It is so hard not to make daily trips out there to check on things.  I know I would get really frustrated with the lack of fast progress.   Cuz I want my house finished next week!

This is Ster's closet - he chose this room so that he had the bigger closet than what my niece will have.  Tim wasn't really happy that I made him do that.  At least we only see his rear end and not the funny face he ALWAYS makes when I pull the camera out!

Here is Nikki's closet - twice as big as her current closet.  She is just happy to finally get some room!
Now - after Christmas and the paperwork is finally signed then I can relax.  I can relax because the paperwork will mean that it is closer to officially being a done deal and traffic will be returning to normal and I don't have to keep muttering "idiot" under my breath.  Okay, so it is muttered loudly until Ster starts to say it and I have to keep telling both of us that it isn't nice to call someone an idiot just because they don't know how to drive.

There are some

VERY unhappy campers at my house.

First of all, I am sick.  Again!  This time it is only a cold - so the only reason I'm runnin' to the bathroom is to get tissues.

Second of all, I am sick for those families in CT.  My heart literally hurts for them.  How could he do that?  Those poor kids.

Third, and this is totally selfish in light of what happened in CT, but our move in date has been moved back.  Yep, we were told it would be the end of January now - if we are lucky to get it back on schedule.  See, the first foreman on the project didn't exactly schedule things very well.  The entire week Tim was in Florida, we expected to see a lot accomplished - but all that was done in a full week was a little bit of sheetrock.  We found out that they fired that foreman.  The new foreman has been with Ivory Homes for 13 years and knows his stuff.  He is hoping to get things back on track, but we are now looking at the end of January.  I guess the ONLY good thing that comes out of that is it gives us a couple extra weeks to try to sell this house.

In our new subdivision, there are 4 houses under construction - two have been sold and two are "spec" homes.  The old foreman had scheduled one of the spec homes to get the outside up before our house - and we started a month before the spec home.  Not pleased.  Not at all.  Apparently our ex-foreman was fairly new and couldn't schedule things nor keep on top of things.  Tim met with the new foreman today and while they were talking, the new foreman had called up the sheetrockers to tell them to get over to the house and finish up and also called the exterior dudes and when he was told they were going to the spec home he told them that was not going to happen and that they had better get to our house today and start.  Poor guy.  He now has 4 more houses he has to get built.

You will hear my screetches if we have any more delays!  I MUST get out of this house!

Once again

I'm reminded of how blessed we are.  Here I have been so stressed out about getting this house sold - but we do have an alternate plan if that doesn't work out (not thrilled with that plan, though).  I've been stressed out about how to get Christmas paid for and how to buy new things for the house.  Oh, and how to get Ster's birthday present, too.  I've been having panic attacks over it.  Lovely, right?

Anyway, yesterday was Ster's birthday so I took the day off to buy his gifts, clean things up and spend time with him.  It so happens that it was the 5th Grade Christmas Store yesterday.  So, I took a gander over to the store to fight little kids for things.  Ster had picked out what he wanted already and was standing guard over it.  Anyway, as I was standing in line to buy Ster's stuff (part of his birthday), he told me that we needed to buy one of his friend's items because his friend was poor and they were going to lose their power if they didn't get some money.  Over and over again he kept telling me that they needed money so we needed to buy something from him.

(Side note:  whatever the kid brings to sell, they get to keep the money from that)

It tugged at my heart strings so I told Ster to go get one.  Then I told him to go get another one.  I couldn't stop thinking about this little friend and him trying to get money for their power.

As I was paying for it, Ster hollered over to his friend and said that we were buying TWO of his items!  The kids face lit up, he put his hands together like a prayer, and he said "Oh thank you!  Thank you!"

My heart broke.  How sad for that little boy!  I cried when I got home.  I cried when I tried to go to sleep last night!  How heartbreaking for him to be going through that.  He's in 5th grade and already has to deal with his parents' money issues.

I feel for him.  My dad and mom were both unemployed at the same time when I was in 7th grade and we had to move when I was in 8th grade.  I know they didn't mean to do it, but I knew that we were struggling financially and I was worried about it.  I didn't dare ask them for things I needed.  In fact, in 9th grade I wore shoes to school (they were 2 for $5 Kmart shoes) that had holes in the bottom.  It was the middle of winter and my feet would be frozen by the time the bus picked us up.  I remember hearing someone (my mom, probably) talking about how they put cardboard in their shoes when they had holes - so that is what I did.  I cut out cardboard and it helped a little bit.  My mom was mortified when I finally told her (when I was an adult) what I had done.  I'm sure they didn't realize that the comments they made about money made me scared to ask for anything.  And I feel for that little boy.  I know that their Bishop can help them.  But how sad for him.

In fact, I hate hearing about people who have lost their jobs.  I hate to see people come in to work looking for jobs.  I worry myself sick for them.  I worry about people in AF who get their water shut off (even though I know most of them have the money, they just don't spend it wisely - you know, if they have no money for water then how did they pay for the fake nails, hair color and fancy cars?).   It makes me sad for them.  Tim tells me he never has to worry about anything because I worry enough for two people.

I asked Ster how his friend was today.  He told me that they are okay and didn't get their power turned off yet.

Hopefully I can sleep tonight without worrying about them!

More pictures

I told myself I wouldn't be the person who would bore everyone with daily updates on our house.  Boy is it hard!  I am just so excited I can't stand it!

Last Thursday, Tim and I spent a good chunk of the day insulating our new garage and in between rooms.  We wanted to do something to help muffle some of the noise and thought that insulation would help.  We were told it wouldn't help.  So all that work and sore muscles may have been for nothing!  I took a few hours off work to help Tim insulate, I went back right after work for an hour to help, and then went back after a cub committee meeting.  I am sure I've worked hard like that in the past - but I was so sore the next few days.  I seriously couldn't walk down the stair without wimpering.  I walked like an old lady!  It was really pathetic.  But I'm sure I worked off a few pounds - at least in sweat.   They are sheetrocking the house right now - should be finishing up tomorrow.  But as of this weekend, this is what the house looked like:

Ha!  I only got two pictures - there were workers in each of the rooms and I hate to take pictures of other people without their permission and won't post any unless it is of family.  So, this is all I had.  I don't think I'll be able to stay away much longer, so my lunch hour tomorrow might be a quick trip to check it out =)
