Lord of the Rings
I just love Lord of the Rings. I watch it all the time. I started to watch it again last night - the first disk of the Fellowship of the Ring.
This morning, Ster saw that I was watching it and wanted to watch it with me. We started it all over again when he decided he likes the Two Towers better - so we switched movies.
We are not quite through the first disk. Ster HAS NOT stopped asking questions. Non-stop questions. Some of them I know, some of them I don't. Questions I never thought to ask.
Who fell? The boy.
Why did he fall? He was tired.
They were attacked, right? Yes.
By the bad guys, right? Yes.
How do they know it was the bad guys?
Non stop. It is driving me crazy! I really want to tell him to hush up and watch!

Gone again
Another trip. I hate it when Tim leaves. Luckily he will only be gone for 2 weeks.
I was watching the Season finale of Army Wives this morning and it brought back memories of when Tim was deployed. The first time Tim left, it was for basic training and AIT. I cried and cried when I left him at the airport. Seven months seemed like forever. We were able to talk daily when he got to AIT and I was able to go out for a July 4th weekend to visit him. But it was a long, long time for me back then.
Little did I know that in a couple of years he would be gone for 15 months. I remember when he called me to tell me he was being deployed. There had been rumors for a while, but I didn't think much of it. We were in Las Vegas for Thanksgiving - Tim's mom and aunt and uncle had decided to go there (they were in California at the time) so we met up with them there. The day after Thanksgiving, Tim offered to watch Ster while I went shopping with Mom and Aunt Carol. (He had this grin on his face when I left - he knew that his aunt would kick my butt shopping and she did. I have NEVER been shopping with someone like her. She was go go go and wouldn't stop). Anyway, we were at the outlet mall when Tim called his mom's cell phone to let me know. There we stood in the middle of the store and I was bawling and hugging Tim's aunt (don't know why his aunt and not his mom). The next 5-6 weeks seemed to go by so fast. When it finally came time for them to deploy, it was Sunday, January 3, 2004. They left early evening - so we had the day to spend with him. I remember being in the hanger with my family and a couple of friends - and feeling the dread and panic of being alone for who knew how long. All we knew at that point was that he was to go to Fort Carson for 3-4 months and then in Afghanistan for 12 months. Ster and I have always had issues and Tim was always there to smooth things over. Ster was a big daddy's boy and only calmed down for Tim. So I was scared spitless to be dealing with it all alone. I think I scared the crap out of our friend - because I was so panicked when Tim started to walk away and trying not to hyperventilate that he looked at me like I was freaking out. I'm sure I was.
Now the time from January 3, 2004 to mid-April 2005 - THAT was a long time! We were able to see him a few times when he was still at Fort Carson and then again at Christmas - but it was way toooo long.
Tim leaves now and it is a quick kiss and hug and see ya later! Of course, if he were to be gone for a year I'd be bawling my eyes out again.
I'm thankful he's in the Air National Guard - otherwise he would have had another 12 month deployment (they are keeping them to 12 months and not 15 months now) or two under his belt. That, plus he would have been able to become an Apache pilot and there is NO WAY I would have survived that deployment without having a nervous breakdown.
More ramblings, I know. But I'm sure missing my hubby and he hasn't even been gone all day! It is going to be a long 2 weeks.

Just what I thought...
When we listed our house with our realtor, I told Tim to ask her is there was any way we could get close to what we were listing it at. We knew that with realtor's fees, we couldn't come down much from the listing price. I wanted her to reassure us that we weren't way off base (although I felt we were). She insisted that we could list it at that price. Not what I asked, but okay.
So here we are almost three weeks later. We've had some lookers. No takers. Fine - the longer it takes us to sell, the closer we are to having the house built and maybe, just maybe, things would work out in such a way that we wouldn't have to move twice. Wishful thinking, I know.
Tim finally got our realtor to call him back to ask what the feedback has been. Two of the comments were not surprising, but one was. The surprising comment was that the house was too small. Okay. But didn't the 1900 square feet on the listing give them the idea that the house was small? Whatever. The next comment of the price being a bit too high wasn't surprising to us. The third comment is totally what we expected.
The neighbors.
Yep, the comments from prospective buyers have been about the neighbors. No surprise at all. In fact, Tim and I are the first to admit that if we looked out our back window we would not buy the house.
So, unless someone falls in love with the inside of the house like I did then it looks like we'll be renting it out for a couple of years. Maybe they will clean it up by then.

I hate IEP time!
Well, Ster's annual IEP meeting was today. It wasn't pretty. As usual, I was fighting off the tears with everything they were telling me. The only bright side is that his math has improved. He is really good at multiplication but needs practice on division. Other than the fact that he doesn't understand the word problems, he is almost at 5th grade level.
Hearing how far behind he is just upsets me. I don't know what to do to help him. I have tried to work with him on reading and that ends in disaster. I can't seem to figure out how to help his language skills. It is just so frustrating because I don't know what to do. Except watch him and hope that something is kicking in.
That whole meeting gave me a headache.
And once again we are reminded how nice it will be to leave this area. The dipstick flipped Tim off again - while he was in the back sit of his grandma's car. I would love it if they saw what he was doing - but I highly doubt they would care.
Well, sleep is calling my name. Hopefully I can sleep all night and start to feel better.

Fun!
We've had some excitement at work. Due to "restructuring", three people were laid off. Because money is extremely tight, they've had to tighten their belts (I guess - there always seems to be money for certain people). So it makes me wonder: are they looking at other jobs to cut? Are they looking at ways to consolidate some jobs? Yikes. Hopefully my job is safe. But you never know.
If anyone is interested, you can see what our house plan is at www.ivoryhomes.com and check out the Tivoli. We've made some minor changes to the plan - the 3rd car garage has 6 feet added to the back and the laundry room isn't as long (we cut the wall back so we can put in a bench next to the door). Check out the kitchen! Isn't it dreamy? You have to keep in mind that my current house is small - so the new house seems so huge to me. Especially the kitchen. Isn't it dreamy?
Okay - can you tell I'm excited for the kitchen?

#9
We are already getting asked if we had sold our home yet.
No, we aren't like most people - we will have to wait a while for it to sell. That is jus the way it is for us. Others can sell in a week, we may take a year. But I'm prepared. I can handle it.
But I am not going to handle the comments about it taking us so long to sell.

My list
of reasons to move:
1. Neighbors behind us.
2. The interest rates are low - which allows us to get a bigger, better house for about $150 a month more. I'm willing to pay it.
3. The new house has a huge yard for Tim. At least, it is huge to me.
4. My new kitchen (as just reported to my by Tim) is 10 feet wide by 19 feet long (that includes the pantry).
5. Tim finally has his 3 car garage (and if things go well on tuesday, his garage may be deeper than originally planned - we have to keep our fingers crossed that the architect is willing to make one more change for us).
I was kind of joking around with Tim about why we are moving and so I started this list. But then our neighbors proved that they can make us more miserable.
6. The 39 year old is riding his dirt bike all around the yard. (Keeps it in the yard - probably because he doesn't have a drivers license any more)
7. I really don't want to look out my back window (being a nosy neighbor again) and watch the grandkids pee on the fence. Luckily Tim was the lucky recipient of that sight.
I was going to write that I hoped the list didn't get to 10 - but then I remembered something else.
8. My neighbor discovered the website that lists wages of goverment employees. Yeah, she now knows what I make and what quite a few others make in the ward. That was an uncomfortable conversation!
On the bright side - we had 2 showings today. I still have doubts that the house will sell at what we have it listed at. But it doesn't hurt to try. I hope our realtor does a good job for us, too, but the jury is still out on that!
